Notes: OK, where to begin? 2016's shock horror WE ARE THE FLESH has been billed as an arty sexploitation pretension and I understand that point of view, but there's enough in its short runtime to make it worth a view, once at least.

In terms of art, the film is visually striking as viewers of the trailer should be able to imagine. The aspect ratio changes a few times without distracting. Some scenes are memorably surreal, including some of the x-rated content.

The dramatic action is bizarre and mostly unexplained but eventually themes are revealed that make a sort of sense. Childbirth (eggs, wombs, rebirth) is prominent but not in any way subtle. I did enjoy how the early scenes of demented destruction then construction lead to something that sort of makes sense.

At times it's funny. There's a pretty good allusion to the creation of Frankenstein's monster (more birth) that made me laugh. The third frame I've posted above doesn't suggest the most serious of film to me.

If there's a deeper meaning to the film's transgressive sex magic I'd suggest it's hinted at in the final twist as one character departs the party. I think it's trying to suggest something about how the modern world allows us to choose our environment and indulge in darkness more easily than ever before. It's rather open-ended and left to the viewer to decide.
