Notes: This documentary is a noble thing, attempting to salvage a coherent document from the film rushes made during Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters' LSD-fuelled journey across America in 1964.
Instead of simply editing the original footage together the film is presented as a documentary and includes archive film, new animation and even actors dubbing contemporary transcripts from the personnel who were no longer able to participate. It just about works as a film about Ken Kesey but isn't the last word on this story - you have to think someone will eventually come along and make a more poetic and visionary film from these materials.
Other points: fascinating to see how ripped and charismatic Neal Cassady was but sad to see Jack Kerouac looking so low.
