A NIGHT OUT (1915)

Title: A Night Out
Year: 1915
Director: Charlie Chaplin
Format: Blu-ray
Label: BFI

Notes:

Charlie Chaplin does his drunk act in a duo with Ben Turpin for half an hour. It's not exactly great with no real plot development (except the introduction of an unattainable girl, shock) and quite a lot of toing and froing to pad out the running time. Charlie's character is a bit irritating which I suppose is fair enough for an inebriated reveller.

Overall, it's a mildly funny film if you're disposed to this sort of silent slapstick and I guffawed a few times.

Technical thought - the day-for-night photography is in no way convincing, those long California shadows give the game away just a bit! There's also a bit of a contrast problem in the opening scenes but the restoration generally looks as good as could be hoped for.
