Nothing dodgy about this countenance |

The dramatic confession |
Title: Schloß Vogelöd
Year: 1921
Director: F. W. Murnau
Format: Blu-ray
Label: Masters of Cinema
Notes: Described as a chamber drama, this early Murnau film certainly feels stage bound although I think the stills above show there's still plenty of visual flair on display. This is a slightly creepy whodunit taking place in a German castle and an efficient piece of drama, running just over 80 minutes. It's not terrifying though, even for the 1920s, and the English alternative title is therefore a bit misleading. That said, the most memorable feature of the film is how it smoothly transitions from feeling comfortable and safe to unsettled and disturbed. Worth a watch for the good twist even if overall it's not a classic film.
